I believe that not all student assessments should be the traditional paper and pencil test. Many times I can tell so much more about what a student has learned and what they understand through creative projects. This page is loaded with examples of student work. These examples range from 5th grade through 8th grade. Please click on any of the images or videos to view the creativity.

Student HIT Books "Historian's In Training"
Over the course of 8th grade students create HIT Books or Historians in Training books. Students add into their books the highlights of their learning. At the end of the year these HIT Books are published globally on iTunes for the world to enjoy. To date, I have published over 400 books of my students work making them all published authors.

World War I Poetry Slams
In this activity students worked together to create poetry slams that explain the causes and effects of World War I. These were broadcast live on YouTube and parents along with other classes were invited to tune in and watch. Parents and other classes were also able to view later if they weren't available to make it for the orginal broadcast time.
World War II Summative Assessment
In this summative assessment students analyzed the economic factors of World War II and anaylyzed primary resources to decide if America was correct in dropping the atmic bomb. Students used the Touchcast Virtual News studio theme to demonstrate their understanding.
